Fireworks and wildfires and homes lost
I get it. Fireworks are part of the 4th of July. As a kid I liked to watch them and shoot them off. I lived in a very wet climate. And starting a wildfire was possible but not very probable. In fact, the biggest danger was accidentally having an M80 go off in a person's hand. That would be bad but you wouldn't be responsible for burning down dozens of homes.
Now I live in an arid climate. Any place that isn't irrigated is basically dry grass and sagebrush. And people live in homes surrounded by this stuff. While the numerous homes in the various canyons and small towns take every precaution to ensure they aren't affected by wildfires, nothing is foolproof.
This 4th of July weekend was a very bad one. Numerous fires started by fireworks were popping up in multiple places because some idiots who absolutely know they are illegal just can't control themselves. Every one of the fires, many still burning, were preventable. Every highway and have huge lighted signs warning to not shoot off fireworks. Yet every 4th of July weekend it happens.
Normally, the fires get controlled before homes are lost. Not this year. A bunch of people lost their houses and outbuildings. One fire is approaching 15,000 acres in size. I just don't get it. I guess some people are either so selfish they don't care or they are really this dumb. Take your pick. I guess it's true what they say. You can't fix stupid.
Until next time, take care...
