Three weeks of consistently working out

All the way into my early forties I was a pretty athletic, fit person. Most of my exercise came from cycling, primarily mountain biking. I had a network of single track directly across from my house for training and then Saturday was typically a big group ride somewhere.

Then real life sort of set in. Work that commanded more of my time, family obligations etc. That meant less riding time and more sitting time. That's one of the dangers of an IT job.

While I tried to exercise, it was never very consistent. Well, now I've made it a priority again. I'm at the gym lifting four days a week and cycling three days a week for some cardio. Not big miles, maybe 10 to 16 depending on how I feel.

Here's what I've noticed. My posture is better. My back doesn't hurt (as much) when I bend over to pick stuff up. I feel stronger. Even my body looks a little better. I've lost a few pounds. I'm sleeping way better and not taking any of my occasional afternoon siestas. My mental outlook is better and I'm all around just happier.

Have I had days when I've wanted to not work out? Sure. But I forced myself to go. And once I was at the gym I was good to go. Hopefully, I can turn this into a habit. If I can do another three weeks consistently, I think that's what it will become.

I have my yearly physical in two months. I'll be really curious to see how my blood pressure and blood panel is affected by all of this activity.

The only thing I still need to get a handle on is eating healthier and eating less carbs. I need to be better at maintaining a calorie deficit. I have a lot of weight to lose to get to my goal weight, but I refuse to pump myself full of GLP-1's.

Until next time, take care...
