The worst part about the gym - cardio!

I have a love/hate relationship with the gym. I love working out with weights. I absolutely hate doing cardio.

I have plenty of options for the cardio part of my workout. Upright bike, recumbent bike, treadmill, stair climber, elliptical. So it's not that I lack for options. The problem is I find all of them excruciatingly boring.

In spring, summer, and early fall I can ride my gravel bike which I enjoy and don't find boring. I have plenty of nice routes to choose from. I happen to live in a place where the scenery is beautiful and the weather is dry 99% of the time.

I just hate the "stationary" aspect of any cardio machine. Walking or riding nowhere. Mindlessly pedaling or walking staring at a bank of TVs for 30 minutes or more. Even though the machine is telling me I'm burning lots of calories (cardio is good at that), I find it mentally painful. I'd almost rather go to the dentist.

I never feel that way working out with weights and weight machines. I'm never bored and it's the part of my time at the gym that I enjoy.

The problem is once we get into late fall and winter, the cold and snow makes outdoor cycling not so easy to do. I'll be stuck on a stationary bike to get my cardio. And since I'm at the gym five or six days a week, it's going to suck.

I get it. First world problem. I'm not asking anyone to feel sorry for me. But, sometimes a guy just has to rant. I feel better now.
